Times SquareWe (my mom, sister, sister-in-law and me) went this past weekend to New York city for a long weekend trip. It was a great time. This was the first time that I flew since 9/11 and I had a bit of a panic attack in the plane station- the security guards were very nice though. We got to NY with no problems and starting walking. We ended up going to see the play Mary Poppins on Friday night- that was awesome. The Mary Poppins PlayThe theater was beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed it, that was probably the best thing that we did on the whole trip. After the play, we hiked back to our hotel room which was downtown near ground zero. It was a desolate place at 12:30 at night. That was the only time while we were in NY that I actually felt a little nervous about the area we were in- but we saw lots of cops and security guards and we got back to our room safely. On Saturday, we walked around Times Square and went and saw Phantom of the Opera- that was a good play- but we had bad seats and the theater was no where as nice as the other one. I am glad that we got to see it though- the music was amazing. After the play, we tried to find Bllomingdale’s but who knew that  Bloomingdale’s closes at 7pm  on Saturday night!! Very frustrating to find out after waling for a long time to find it at 7:15. So- we walked some more and then ended up at Lindy’s and got up some good desserts- YUMMY! On Sunday, we walked up from our hotel room north thru Chinatown and Little Italy. Gina and I got a back massage that hurt so bad that I had to do “Lamaze” breathing to get thru it- however, I LOVED it. We then went to the Thrift Stores near Times Square. We got a good laugh because most people go to NY to shop at the big expensive stores and I wanted to go to the Salvation Army. Sunday afternoon was spent at Macy’s, “the largest store in the world.” It had 8 1/2 floors (it has a 1 1/2 floor) and a cellar- it was huge. It had a whole floor of men’s underwear- I didn’t realize that men had that many different styles!  The escalators in the store is what I liked the most. They were old and wood- beautiful. I still can’t get over the “old” stuff in the city- the intricate work on the buildings and carvings on the tiles- people don’t build buildings like that anymore. Buildings are no longer pieces of art- they are mass produced.  Statue of Liberty On Monday- we went to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island- we did not have enough time to see everything and I would like to go back and really take my time looking at the stuff at Ellis Island one day- a great history lesson for us all! Overall, we had a great trip, no one got hurt, hit by a taxi, or too sick and our families at home made it without us. I loved spending time with my mom and sisters and just making some great memories which we will laugh over for years to come.
